Prepping Your Air Conditioning Unit for Winter
Winter is here. It’s time to put away the swimsuits and sunscreen and unpack the doonas and hoodies. It’s also the perfect opportunity to switch from cooling to heating your home.

At ActronAir, we pride ourselves in supporting Eagle Raps as they give a fresh start to young lives. They started in 1997 to address youth suicide in the Blacktown area of NSW by providing a place for young people to seek assistance. They’ve since gone from strength to strength, now providing education programs for HSC and vocational courses that have assisted more than 2,000 locals. Eagle Raps is responsible for many success stories and one such story is Ben’s. Ben was 14 and suffering from social anxiety when Eagle Raps met him. He struggled at school socially but never academically. At Eagles, he began to feel comfortable in their unique accepting and caring environment. At Eagles, Ben went on to complete his HSC; eventually becoming a leader and mentor at the school program and joining their committee as a Youth Liaison Delegate. He later completed a Certificate IV and Diploma in Community Services at Eagles. In 2015, Ben took the huge step and enrolled into a degree in Social Work. Since then, he’s completed a Masters of Human Service and is now undertaking a graduate certificate in arts and social science research. Here he hopes to research socioeconomic realities and the impact they have on social welfare policy. This research aims to examine the systemic effects of social stigma and how these impact people’s opportunities from disadvantaged backgrounds. Through all his achievements Ben is still a keen volunteer for every Eagles’ fundraising efforts, proving to be a great friend and a rare asset to the industry for a long time to come. We congratulate you Ben on all of your achievements.
Aussies cannot live without air conditioning, and rightly so. With a huge range of weather and temperature conditions sweeping across the continent all year round, homeowners of today rely on their air-con units to regulate the otherwise wild climate.
A homeowner’s worst nightmare can emerge in the form of a malfunctioning air conditioning unit, especially in Australia’s unpredictable climate! Do not let any strange sounds and poor air control associated with your air conditioning alarm you. Sometimes, simple repairs may resolve the issue without the need to buy a whole new unit.
When normal circumstances would have us at home for no longer than 4-5 hours a day, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has most Aussies at home all day. Nowadays, a cough and a sneeze bring with them more worry and fear than ever before.
When you know a little more about how air conditioners work, you can help make better decisions about what systems are suitable for your needs.
Are you considering getting an air conditioner, but don’t want any shocks when the electricity bill arrives? It’s important to find the most efficient option for your situation, because selecting the wrong air conditioning solution can add significantly to your energy costs. When it comes to air conditioning, there are many different types to choose from, and it can be hard to figure out which is the most efficient. Don’t worry, because this guide will clear everything up and should help you in making an informed choice on the right air conditioner for your needs. Window Air Conditioners Some of the most common and basic types of air conditioners are Window units. These are typically used to cool single rooms. Window units tend to be easy to install, because they are louvered and sit in your window. These units are often considered to be a good choice for renters, as they can generally be moved without too much hassle. These types of units are generally less efficient than Split Ducted systems, but they tend to have significantly lower upfront costs. There can be a wide variance in efficiency between the models, so it is important to consider your purchase carefully. Portable Air Conditioners Portable air conditioners tend to be the least efficient, and they are only recommended for small spaces or for situations where other choices aren’t an option. They can be very expensive to run if you try to use them in a larger area. There are two main types, single and dual hose. A single hose portable air conditioner uses one hose to move the hot air outside of your home. This reduces the air pressure inside your house, which in turn sucks in hot air through all of the gaps in your doors and windows. Because of
The energy star rating system is so useful when it comes to gauging the efficiency of appliances. Most of us know so little about Watts and Amps that we would be completely lost without it…
The best air conditioner for a rental property really depends on which side you sit on, the landlord or the tenant. Both landlords and tenants will have very different requirements and desires, so it is likely that they will clash on what they think is best for the situation. This article will go through the perspectives of each side and then discuss which air conditioners are likely to be best suited for each party. One of the most important aspects in this debate is who is paying for the electricity. In general, it is the renter that pays the electricity bill, since they are the ones using it. This removes the financial incentive for most landlords to pay extra for a more efficient air conditioning system. From a purely financial standpoint, it doesn’t make much sense for a landlord to pay extra money for a system that is more efficient when the tenant will reap the savings. Now, not all landlords see everything solely through a financial lens. Some might be environmentalists and want the carbon footprint of the home to be as low as possible. Others might just want their tenants to be happy and comfortable. Some might have a particular soft spot if it is a young family struggling with all the bills. If the arrangement does involve the landlord paying for the electricity, then it does become in their financial interest to have the most efficient arrangement. Even so, there are still many other things that need to be taken into consideration when choosing the right air conditioner. From the tenants’ perspective, it all depends on their current situation. If they plan to move frequently, they may want an option that is more portable. The other consideration is what the landlord will let them do. They might
